Greensboro City Council to Cut Taxes? Infrastructure Concerns.

by ryan shell on March 17, 2010

The Greensboro City Council is currently discussing the possibility of cutting taxes. The news and record has details here, but there’s one quote I want to point out that deals with infrastructure and reoccurring maintenance.

“Some council members are concerned that tax cuts could put the city in a tough position to cover basic needs.

Councilman Zack Matheny said the city is suffering because of some prior cuts, such as eliminating the road resurfacing budget.

“You’ve got bonds the people voted on. You got infrastructure needs,” Matheny said. “We need to look at all of them.””

As soon as I read that portion of article I immediately thought about this post and this post, both of which are about infrastructure needs. It will be interesting to see if the council charges the manager with highlighting what any future cuts could potentially cost in the long run.
