“Without a doubt, the City of Greensboro has neglected Lee Street (primarily from Elm to the Coliseum).” That was the first line of a previous post titled “City of GSO Neglects Lee St. Road Conditions. Watch Video.”
In this particular post I highlighted that the Lee St / Eugene St intersection had been severely neglected and was plagued by huge cracks and potholes galore. I referenced that,
“This issue is at least two months old (that’s on the generous side) and it is what I would call extremely bad driving conditions on a main thoroughfare to the coliseum, and into downtown Greensboro.”
A video was also made a to accompany the post - watch it to see first hand how bad the conditions were at the time of it’s making… and believe it or not, things have only gotten worse.
Progress
BUT, I have a bit of good news to share. The City of Greensboro issued the following information via press release last Friday,
“On Tuesday, January 26, and Wednesday, January 27, City crews will perform street repair work at the intersection of Lee and Eugene streets from 8:30 am until 4:30 pm. Roads will be open to traffic, but motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to take alternate routes. Traffic signs will be in place and motorists should use caution in the area.”
Prior to posting on this issue I did make an effort to reach out to the City and try to have the problems resolved, but this was staff’s position at that time,
“Since we are more than likely going to be implementing streetscape improvements on High Point Road and Lee Street in the near future, it does not make sense to pursue resurfacing these streets at this time.”
It’s great that minds have been changed and that action is being taken, but we should have systems in place to ensure infrastructure needs are adequately maintained – before they get to such dire points.
Note: This is almost comical. Just after hitting publish on this post a friend called and said, “Man, if you want some good footage of the Lee St intersection you should go out there now. It’s gotten so bad that cars are now slowing down and it’s making traffic backup. I really can’t believe how bad its gotten.”
