Google’s high speed network is a popular topic of discussion amongst various members of the community and the City, but is that the case for Bill Knight, the Mayor of Greensboro?
Knights campaign Web site lists the following items under the “What do I offer as a candidate for mayor?” section:
- Fresh leadership (Has he provided leadership with the Google initiative?)
- Ability to be a full time mayor (When is the last time he publicly comment on Google?)
- Years of experience as a businessman and employer
- Ability to lead and build team consensus where it counts (Has he provided leadership and built team consensus in terms of direction and messaging for the Google initiative?)
- A pledge to look ahead and not backward
As I’ve previously mentioned in a comment on this site,
“I was really hoping to see something happen here that was bigger than simply Google, or coming up with ideas. I wanted to see various groups come together and play off each others strengths, share ideas and work towards a common goal. Doing so would have brought new people together, created a broader/more unified information source and also given us a little practice for the next time something of this nature comes up.”
The Mayor of Greensboro could have helped accomplish everything mentioned in the previous paragraph. And to be clear, I like Bill Knight as a person… but I do hope he realizes that a leadership opportunity has been missed, or at least that’s how it is perceived.
